Early yesterday morning, I packed up and headed to the Oslo Central Station to inquire about catching the train to Bergen. To my surprise, I was able to secure a spot on the first train out that day, and my cross-country train trip began. The scenery reminded me a lot of Alaskan and Yukon scenery, with massive mountains, lakes, streams, and forests. I alternately napped and scene-watched on the 7-hour ride, and arrived in Bergen mid-afternoon.
After finding the hostel, I set out planning on doing some laundry, but they don't have facilities (and the staff was utterly incapable of agreeing on where a laundry place was), so it looks like I'll be stretching my clothing for a day or two until I get back to Oslo. I'm also getting rather tired of rice. Purchasing the train ticket and a little breakfast completely drained my discretionary spending for the day, so it was rice and garlic again for dinner today.

It's almost like I can't affjord this place!

At least I shouldn't need a ticket for the train ride back.
Yesterday I was in no real mood to wander the city, so I stayed in the hostel and socialized - ran into an Australian gentleman that I met in the Oslo hostel, as well as ladies from Madrid, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and Germany. I also happened to meet a young man from Indiana, of all places! This networking was extremely helpful, as it kept my spirits up and gave me my plans for the next day.
There's a mountain nearby that overlooks the city, and with luck I'll be able to get some rock climbing in. I plan on making a full day of it, so I'll stop wasting both of our time on posting more, and get out and do it! It's a sunny day in Norway (finally), so I plan to enjoy it! Maybe even get some real food, too!
Brian out!
