Alright, folks - I'll be upfront here. I'm not in the best of moods, so if I seem to give Oslo an unfair treatment, please keep in mind that I don't much care right now. I awoke this morning to the same weather I experienced the day before - overcast, humid, and tepid. After slogging down a mug full of apricot nectar, I figured I may as well get things started.
With a full day to kill in Oslo, I headed out to the north, crossing a stream and heading east to the Oslo Botanical Gardens. The gardens were pretty sweet. Full of plants and stuff. Even piles of different kind of soil, each labeled with the kind of mulch it was. It was scintillating.
After wandering south to the city center, I stopped in a café as it began to rain harder. I ordered a kylling sandwich, which was very tasty. By the time I had finished, the rain had diminished to a constant mist that would continue for the rest of the afternoon. I continued south to the harbor, where I found the Oslo Opera House, which has an interesting construction that allows one to gallivant up on the roof.
I did so, and wandered inside and listened a bit to a live performance occurring on the second floor. It was roped off, however, so I couldn't actually see it occurring. Once out of the opera house, I headed back north to my hostel, stopping in the same Indian grocer as before to purchase some more food for dinner.
Getting back to the room, I met a new roommate and the silver lining for the day - a man named Arnell, who teaches clarinet at California State University. He had just come from Sweden, and so we discussed where we had been and what we were planning to do in the future. I stepped out for a jog, and after I showered we agreed to head out to the town and see if we could find anything interesting. We wandered out to the walking-only district and talked, but not finding anything exciting, we decided to head back to the hostel.
Brian out.
